Faces of the Industry: Chef Bao Bao

Chef Suchanan Aksornnan, who goes by Chef Bao Bao, joined us on Episode 66: Badass Female Chef in Asian Food. Chef Bao Bao hails from Chiang Rai, the northernmost province of Thailand, where she grew up surrounded by the greatness of nature, organic and fresh ingredients, and a wide variety of local foods. After graduating from The French Culinary Institute in NY, Chef Bao Bao trained and worked alongside the culinary greats Jean Georges and Daniel Boulud. She’s been a personal chef to celebrities, and participated as a contestant on TV shows like “Beat Bobby Flay” and “Knife Fight”. She opened up Baoburg in Williamsburg back in 2013, then relocated the restaurant to Greenpoint a couple years ago where she now cooks up her favorite dishes inspired by Southeast Asian cuisines. (Host note: Lucky to have this in my neighborhood. Guilty of ordering delivery from here a few times a month.)

In 2015, Chef Bao Bao was recognized by Zagat as one of the "30 Under 30" culinary rising stars in NYC and featured in numerous food & dining publications. Thrillist also recognized her as one of 11 "The Most Badass Female Chefs in New York".
